If you’re looking for a tyre that can handle the miles on the road, and offer some serious track day fun, then Michelin’s Power RS could be the tyre for you.
Using the French firm’s latest race-bred compounds, the Power RS is even used by some of Michelin’s supported road racers including TT newcomer star Davey Todd, which gives you an idea of the kind of performance you can come to expect from this sporty rubber.
In the latest issue of Performance Bikes, Kar Lee headed to Rockingham to test their track credentials on his YZF-R6.
After falling out of love with Michelin a few years earlier, it’s safe to say that Kar was impressed with their latest offering.
In Performance Bikes he said:
“I’m chuffed to say, though, that after a couple of trackdays at Rockingham and a few hundred road miles on the Power RSs, my faith in Michelins is restored. Using their Adaptive Casing Technology (ACT) thyey make bold claims of better straight-line stability yet stiffness in the sidewall for when the bike’s on its ear. Marketing speak or not, the zippy R6 couldn’t get the RSs worked up enough to get out of shape. Sure enough, when cranked over it felt as planted as a crane with stabilisers extended. I’m a big fan of trail-braking into corners, so usually ask a lot of my front tyres, and that front 120/70 just digs in and tells me exactly what it’s doing. Perfect.”
Sadly a puncture finished off this pair of Power RS rubber well before their time was due, but summing up Kar comments:
“These tyres are a fine choice for a supersports 600 road and track tool.”
