German tyre brand Metzeler are celebrating a successful 2018 Ulster Grand Prix, after Adam McLean and Dean Harrison both took victories around the famous Dundrod Circuit.
Poor weather conditions and a number of red flag incidents provided a real challenge for organisers this year, with the meeting shortened as a result.
On Thursday, McLean and Harrison both joined race winner Conor Cummins on the podium in the opening Supersport 600 race, before McLean went on to claim his first ever International win as he got the better of Christian Elkin in the Supertwin contest.
Fast forward to Saturday, and the first of the day’s races went to Harrison, who held off a stern challenge from Peter Hickman to take the Superstock win by just 0.203s on the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki. He also set a new class lap record in the process.
Sadly the race had to be stopped following a serious incident involving French rider Fabrice Miguet.
Harrison had to retire from the second Supersport race, and also held a slim advantage over Hickman in the Superbike contest before the red flags came out as Cookstown BE rider Davey Todd crashed out. Deteriorating conditions after the re-start led to the race being halted once again, the safety of all riders absolutely paramount.
