COOPER TAKES METZELER SUPERSTOCK TITLE ONE ROUND EARLY AT SILVERSTONE BSB EVENT

BMW stalwart Richard Cooper wrapped up his first Metzeler National Superstock 1000 title at Silverstone today, securing the few points he needed to take the title for Buildbase BMW Motorrad with a safe sixth place in the race after a terrible start.

As the season progressed the Superstock title quickly developed into a two-way battle between Cooper and young MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider Danny Buchan. With Cooper pulling out a substantial points advantage, Buchan needed to win at Donington to keep the pressure on the runaway leader - however he fell, effectively handing the title to Cooper. All the BMW rider needed to do was finish 5 points ahead of Buchan at Silverstone to wrap up the championship – something he succeeded in doing despite a desperate 11 lap battle of attrition throughout the field!

Richard Cooper said: "What a fantastic feeling to have won the Championship. The Metzeler K2 tyres have been brilliant. They’ve done the job, that’s for sure. They’re very consistent and give excellent feedback – which is all a rider could ask for. Not only that, but we’ve set a few lap records this year and we’ve been doing it late in the race where the tyres should theoretically be giving up. I broke the record at Donington Park on the very last lap and late at Snetterton, proving that not only can the tyres do the race distance, but also they can give you everything when you’d expect them to be finished – that’s a huge accolade."

The Metzeler Superstock Championship has provided some of the most exciting racing on the British Superbike calendar with six different riders on three different brands of machines taking race wins. The riders taking wins during the year were Cooper (4), Buchan (1) his teammate Howie Mainwaring (1), Luke Quigley (1), Tristan Palmer (3), and Adam Jenkinson (1).

Throughout the season the Metzeler Racetec Interact control tyres have proved not only their consistency over race distance, but also their grip, setting lap records at nearly every track the series visited this year.

In the Metzeler Superstock 600 class Keith Farmer tied up the series at Donington Park at the previous round after an absolutely dominant display winning an incredible six races including four back to back.

As well as supplying the control tyres for the 1000ccc and 600cc National Superstock championships until 2015, the Metzeler Racetec Interact tyres are also used in the Triumph Triple Challenge, which has supplied great racing this year as part of the support for the British Superbike series and saw Luke Jones take the series early to emerge as a talent for the future.

Metzeler Racing Manager Jason Griffiths summed up; "Congratulations to Richard and his Buildbase BMW Mottorad team plus Keith Farmer and Luke Jones- surely two stars of the future! Today saw some fantastic racing particularly amongst the top four riders. The three Metzeler classes; Superstock 1000, 600 and the Triumph Triple Challenge give us about 120 riders on similar machines and identical tyres which lends itself to great racing. Jon Kirkham set a fantastic pace to win the series last year but we’ve seen records again this season and often at the end of the race, which is great for us to see the performance and durability of our Metzeler Interact tyres."

Metzeler back up their racing activities with a promotional unit in the Trade Area showing new products, racing videos and running competitions to win Metzeler tyres and clothing.

The Metzeler Racetec Interact tyre range has three compounds; the K3, a durable fast road tyre plus the K1 and K2 race/trackday compounds. In Superstock 1000 riders can choose from the K1 or K2 front and all use the K2 rear whilst the 600 class have a fixed K1 front, K2 rear option for these smaller machines.

Exciting new models including the BMW S1000RR, Aprilia RSV and Triumph Speed Triple all now utilize the Metzeler Racetec Interact K3 tyres as original equipment.
