METZELER LAUNCHES NEW RACETEC INTERACT™

Metzeler launched the new Racetec Interact™ at the historic Brands Hatch circuit one
day before the 2009 British Superbike Championship campaign got underway.
A mixture of racers, journalists and Metzeler staff, including current top racer Guy Martin and
Metzeler’s own Iain Duffus and Terry Rymer, took to the famous circuit, under mixed
conditions to try out the latest tyre innovation.
Terry Rymer, Metzeler Agent and former World Endurance Champion commented, "The
tyre performed really well in the wet and greasy conditions and considering Brands Hatch
Indy circuit only has two left handers, the slightly harder K2 compound warmed up really fast
and maintained great feedback. The stability was great, you wouldn’t have to be a pro rider to
get the best from these tyres, they’re for everyone and for all bikes, I tried them on a complete
cross section of machines ranging from the KTM RC8 to Suzuki GSXR1000 and they felt
great on everything. The racing themed day also echoed the message that professional
racing plays an important role in the technical development of Metzeler tyres."
The racing backdrop was the perfect platform to reveal a tyre designed with the racer, track
day enthusiast and performance road rider in mind.
The patented Interact™ technology is the result of a Metzeler project aimed to make it easier
to go faster.
Usually you must choose between durability or high performance but Metzeler has turned the
‘trade off’ in to a ‘trade on,’ giving you both qualities in one thanks to the innovative interaction
between the belt carcass and compound.
During the production process, through the use of intelligent tensioning know-how, the 0°
steel belt is progressively tightened to ensure an even distribution of pressure.
This makes the tyre more stable in all angles of lean, improving handling during braking and
cornering, also providing a larger, more confidence inspiring contact patch and ultimately
incredible grip.
The new enhanced structural compound and the improved tread pattern design reduces the
effect of overheating at full lean and tyre wear. Cold tyre wear is also lessened thanks to the
use of new fillers in the tyre compound.
The new Racetec with Interact™ technology has been developed for the racer looking for fast
warm up and optimal performance that lasts until the chequered flag. Its low sensitivity to heat
cycles, the process of warming up and cooling down of a tyre, means an extended life for
those track day users that want to ride home on the same rubber they used on track.
The evolution of this latest Racetec now with Interact™ technology, is available in four
compounds: K0, K1, K2 for the racer and track day enthusiast and the K3 for general road
