McGee Secures Irish Supersport Title

Derek McGee irish Supersport title 2018

Following a serious crash at the Ulster GP, Mullingar road racer Derek McGee fought through the pain barrier at last weekend’s Killalane Road Races to secure the 2018 Irish Supersport Title.

McGee, who has been using Metzeler’s Racetec RR tyres, has been in superb form all summer and was odds on favorite for securing the title this season prior to his UGP off.

The opening Supersport 600 race was led by Paul Jordan in the early stages, and was a real battle throughout with McGee, Michael Sweeney and Derek Sheils all in contention at the front of the pack.

As the riders crossed the line for the final time, Jordan had dropped to 4th, but was only three seconds behind race winner McGee – which gives you an idea of how close the racing was in County Dublin last Sunday.

The result was enough to secure the title for McGee, who extended his impressive Irish National winning streak to 15 races since the meeting at Enniskillen in June.

Metzeler Racetec RR road racing

With a rich road racing heritage, Metzeler developed their latest Racetec RR tyres based on their wealth of experience at top road race meetings including the NW200, Ulster GP and of course the Isle of Man TT. They are used by many top road racers including Dean Harrison, Michael Rutter and of course Derek McGee to name but a few.

The Racetec RR K1 and K2 compounds are for competition use on both road and track, while the Racetec RR K3 is available for riders who do both fast road riding and occasional track days.
