BMW K1300S – Owner’s Tyre Tips

BMW K1300S tyres

BMW’s K1300S may be no longer in the Bavarian firm’s bike range, but with plenty of used examples on the market, they are still a very popular second hand buy.

A big, comfortable hyper-tourer, it is ideal for carving up the back roads, or mile munching European tour.

The bike was recently featured in RiDE Magazine’s ‘Used Buying Guide’, where they speak to current owners about the plus points and pitfalls of having one in the garage.

The feature also includes a selection of popular tyre options, as recommended by current owners.

For the BMW K1300S, here’s what they selected:

Angel GT test

“Angel GTs seem to suit the big, powerful K1300S well, with up to 5000 miles from a rear (a bit more for fronts but, as always, it’s better to change them in pairs).”

Pirelli’s Angel GT sport touring tyre is about to be superseded by the new Angel GT II, who’s arrival in the UK is imminent.

However, the original Angel GT will still remain in Pirelli’s range for 2019 at least.

With the arrival of the new tyre, that means the Angel GT is now down in price – making it even better value considering the performance on offer.

Metzeler Roadtec 01 test

“Pricey, but the winners of our 2018 sports-touring tyre test have superb ride quality, incredible feel and masses of wet-weather grip.

Rear is also approved in a ‘HWM’ variant for heavyweight bikes.”

The Metzeler Roadtec 01 is certainly one of the most highly rated sport touring tyres on the market right now.

The race-wet inspired tread pattern gives great grip on wet roads at all angles of lean.

Avon Storm 3D X-M Review

“Good, stable tyres with decent mileage – Avon reckon X-Ms last 15-20% longer than normal Storms.

Owners report 5000 – 6000 miles from a rear. Reasonably well-priced at the moment.”

Avon’s Storm 3D X-M is now a second line tyre, and represents a great value buy for all-round road use based on current prices.

It uses their unique 3D Sipe Technology to improve wet grip, limit tread flex and control heat build up in the tyre.
