Ahead of the upcoming Intermot show in Cologne next month, Avon Tyres have announced a new multi-year deal to become the sponsor of the freestyle class in the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building.
This unique competition forms part of ‘INTERMOT Customized’, and was set up by AMD magazine – this year it will take place between October 3rd – 7th in Hall 10.
Classes include Café Racer, Modified Harley Davidson and Retro Mod, with 100 bikes registered to compete from over 30 different countries and entrants being voted for by ‘Peer Group Review’ rather than a set panel of judges.
Avon have a strong presence in the custom bike market, with the Cobra proving to be an extremely popular aftermarket option among riders, and also extremely popular with bike builders.
Doug Ross, Avon Tyres’ Head of Global Motorcycle Tyre Sales, said:
“As a company, Avon is proud of its heritage and, as a custom bike tyre market trend setter, we are especially proud of our reputation as the tyre of choice for so many of the market’s greatest and most innovative designers and craftspeople.”
Avon’s pedigree as a custom bike tyre maker came to the fore in the ‘70s, thanks largely to its work with custom bike legend, Arlen Ness. Its Venom product quickly became the favoured option for custom builders worldwide. The Cobra range offers extra wide sizes for custom bikes and a number of whitewall variants. Avon continues to work with the makers of the modern classic bikes that form the basis of many custom builds.
Avon are also working hard on a brand new custom bike tyre, which is said to be in the final stages of development, with an official unveiling planned for next month’s Intermot show.
We’ll update you on that new Avon tyre as soon as we get further details.
