We caught up with Nick for a quick chat before he left, when he popped in to see us at Cambrian Tyres last week. Nicks visit coincided with Continental sales & marketing executive Andreas Faulstich's trip to see us and so Nick was able to fill the Conti man in about his plans for the ride, and we also put the final logistical plans together for Nicks tyre deliveries to the more far flung areas that he will be travelling through.

It was weird doing once again what I've always been doing, launching a new project to ride around the world. When I first motorbiked around the world on an Enfield in 1992 I never for the life of me thought I'd do it again. Then in 1996 I planned to do it the following year on a Triumph. I did 20 000 miles + in 31 days and got my first record. I was racing against time but also against 3 guys in a car. There was no motorbike record then, just the title 'Circumnavigation of the World by Vehicle' and overland, there was nothing faster than me. That was an odd concept to come to terms with and I guess I liked it.

Unbelievably I then rode around the world twice more, each time on an R1, leading clients on world tours, each time riding over 30 000 miles. But this is my job and I needed to earn a living so I set up the concept 'Journey Beyond Reason' which meant exactly that and rode around the world on a 2005 YZF R1 and in 19 days to claim back the record as 'fastest man around the world'. And yep, here we go once again with Continental, around the world but not so fast but at 55 000 miles or so and crossing 45 countries. The launch at the Cambrian Tyre depot was fab. I never thought I'd be doing this again but I am.
