Gary Pugh Tribute Page

We're sure that as customers and friends of Cambrian Tyres, it doesn't take you long to get to know all of us, as the whole CT operation really comes down to the professional effort of a very small group of dedicated, valued people. Its always jarring to lose a member of the team when they leave to explore new challenges but we cope and there is always a connection that remains.

Sadly, we are being tested at the moment and it's with a very heavy collective heart that we have to pass on the news that Gary Pugh tracically passed away on Sunday 6th April 2008.

We appreciate that this will be shattering news to anyone who knew or dealt with Gary. He has been central to the team work, organisation and success of CT over the last 12 years. He played a big part in the initiation of this very website, and has been a huge inspiration, joyful tonic and trusted friend to those who worked with him here at Cambrian Tyres.

Gary will be an immeasurable loss to us all, but his memory, like his smile will endure.

Donations can be made in lieu to LATCH (www.latchwales.org) or Bronglais Hospital Intensive Care Unit, and forwarded to Neville Evans at Cambrian Tyres Ltd, North Parade, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. SY23 2JR

Please feel free to leave your own personal message of condolences below.

Junior football in this area thrives because of the selfless dedication of people like Gary. There are so many children whose lives have been enriched by Gary who lived by the ideal that kids should be given every opportunity to play and express themselves whatever their ability.Everyone at Aberystwyth Football Club sends their most sincere condolences to Gary's family.

I never knew Gary personally or even knowingly spoke to him, but it,s very sad to hear of a genuinely well intentioned and well liked man in the same trade having an untimely end, and only 37. My heart goes out to his young family. When I think of all the bad things that keep happening around us, it just does not make sense at all.

Gary was a unique person and his work with the junior league was unprecedented, he was knowledgeable, understanding, and a perfect image of how to work with children in football, my first recollection of seeing Gary was coming with a team from Llanilar to Minyddol, Penparcau, and soon that one team became several teams, he was a breath of fresh air , his attitude, commitment and dedication in treating children equally stood out in such a way that soon made everybody realise that here was a real gem of a coach. Today we celebrate the life of Gary and all of us will have special memories of him, his time as coach was cut short by his untimely death, but his name will be remembered for ever within the Aberystwyth and District League junior league His recent commitment to achieve the UEFA “C” licence would have been a massive benefit to his local community, the junior league, the local academy but above all WELSH FOOTBALL, we have lost a role model that we were proud to work with within the game. My sympathy to Verity, Murry, Imogen and CT

My thoughts are with you,Verity,Imogen,Murray and family. A huge loss to the community of Llanilar and family at CT. A friend from School to present your wit humoured us all. Your advise to young footballers was to work hard and enjoy and this was shown in your manner of life. To be part of your last game of football you expressed the above - even though your knees held out - your groins didnt!!! A true please to have known you ,well meet and play again sometime.

As many have previously written, it’s so hard to grasp that he’s actually gone. It may sound strange but I feel like I’ve had non stop chats with him this week, hard to explain. When we were putting the prizes together for “Gary’s world of smiley” (a competition in CT’s customer-trade letter) Gary would try to out do himself with the crazyness of the prizes we sent. He’d line up the stuff for me to put in the box and if we didn’t crack up he’d restart the whole selection process. I found two cake bars ready to go in with a taped on label “really good!” one of the cake bars was neatly wrapped but half eaten. I looked at him questioningly and he remarked, straight faced “how can I say they were really good if I didn’t try one?” Most of us are only young once but the rare few can keep a joyful, playful spirit going for their entire lives, even now I get a real positive vibe and a smile every time I think of the Pughster and his antics, his spirit was infectious resisting his humour was futile and it’s this enduring, shining memory that remains. Arch scampster, brilliant work-mate, all round good-egg, one of life’s heroes! As my friend Mr Childs might add, “Chuck Norris wears Pughster pajamas” Shine on mate, you’ll always be with us.

Just wanted to say a big thank you Gary. Thank you for your friendship, your wit and sense of humour. Thank you for the time you spent helping my children with football & sport. Thank you for some great times playing football alongside you. Thank you for the seriously dodgy tackles which even made some of mine look well timed! A great bloke to be with.

Gary was Llanilar Junior FC, he built them up from a small start to a club that now has 7 teams playing in the Aberystwyth JFL. We had a great relationship with Llanilar at Talybont and that was all down to Gary. It was a pleasure to have competed against his teams as they always played in a friendly yet competitive manner. A true sporstman and a privilage to have known him and called him a friend. Our thoughts are with Verity and the family. Brian and all at Talybont JFC.

A selfless man. I shared an office with Gary for a few years and there was never a dull a moment, even if work was dull. He was the only person who could burst into a tent at 2 o'clock in the morning with a trumpet and a 5000 candle torch to blind and deafen you - to tell you it was your turn to do a 10 mile lap in a 24hour MTB race, and not get punched (Even though he had hit you the head with a 50 mph football 15 hours earlier) All I can say is I'm gutted, he was always the life and sole of anything he was in and anything he wasn't supposed to be in.

A massive shock and loss to everyone that knew Gary. Difficult to imagine what his family are going through at this sad time but rest assured you should be very proud of him. He did so much for junior football and will be difficult to replace. A man who always had a smile on his face, he will be sadly missed.

I only knew Gary a short two years through his tireless work with his juiour league team on the football club's astro turf. He was always friendly and approachable as well as being enthusiastic about the game at all levels and it came as a shock to hear of his sudden and far to soon passing. I offer my deepest sympathy to his immediate family and to his extended family at Cambrian Tyres.

I met Gary on a professional basis in October 2007 when he acted as a representative of the company. I found Gary to be a very professional and personable character. He impressed me with his knowldege of the buisness and his enthusiasm. Over the next few months I spoke to Gary regulary and I can only say that I consider myself fortunate to have been gifted the opportunity to meet with Gary. What a dreadul loss, but great inspriation. God Bless.

i have known gary for a number of years, his son and mine are best friends. i got to know more about gary and his passion and drive through standing next to him on the side of a football pitch watching our sons play together, being a rugby man all my life, football never played a big part, but to gary it really was a passion,he was great with the kids,he passed on all his knowledge and passion for the game on to then, you could watch the kids grow in confidence and believe in themselves over the years, and credit must go to gary for all the long hours he put in working and growing with them,he just loved being there and being involved. we would chat on the side of the pitch during games, where he would try explain the in's and out of football, rules, offside etc, because of these chats i am now a convert and thats because of gary. he will be sorely missed the next time i stand on the side lines watching a game. my thoughts will be with Verity, Murray and Imogen during these next few difficult months.

Hadn't seen Gary regulary since we left school but it was nice to bump into him at the town ground last Boxing day and catch up. He talked alot about his football team of which he was rightly very proud. An old school friend through Penparcau and Penglais. Very sad to hear of his passing. Rest in peace.
